FUN WITH A C-130 !
Robert C. has e-mailed us and said this could be a C-141 or C-17. 8-21-03 - Severel people have speculated that this is actually a Japanese C-1. Anyone know for sure? 8-19-03 Rec'd this from Travis R: The photo "Fun with a C-130" is a C-141. The C-130 uses turboprop engines and the C-17 uses high-bypass turbofans. The engines on this plane are older versions, thus making it a C-141. Thanks for a great site!! 8-25-03 Fun with C-130: I will repeat again this neither a C-141 or a C-17. It is a Japanese Kawasaki C-1. Here are three reasons why it is NOT a C-141. 1. Subjective -- I have been around C-141's and I can tell you that the A/C in the photo is TOO SMALL. 2. First Dead Give Away -- You will notice that the cockpit glass area has a 'center post' dividing the cockpit in half -- look above the 'glasses frame' the C-141 does not have this. The C-141 has a rectangular section to glass here. 3. Second Dead Give Away -- On a C-141 the turbo jets have a prominent cone that that projects out from the front of the engine nacelles. Therefore it would be impossible to have flat cover plates in the nacelles as this A/C has. Sincerely, Richard K. B.
